MyThumbTester guide
Why does a YouTube link load but show no thumbnail image?
An accepted public YouTube link only supplies a video ID. MyThumbTester still needs at least one public thumbnail image response to load.
An accepted link is not the same as an available thumbnail image
A public YouTube link can be accepted because MyThumbTester successfully extracts one video ID, yet the downloader can still show “No thumbnail image could be loaded for that public video.” After parsing, the browser independently checks five public image names for that ID: maxresdefault, sddefault, hqdefault, mqdefault, and default. It lists a result only after the image loads with usable browser-read dimensions. If none does, the correct result is no available image rather than an invented fallback. This is a reproducible browser-side availability check, not a prediction of click-through rate, ranking, distribution, or views.
Use the two stages separately: first confirm that the form accepts the public URL or 11-character ID, then look for at least one listed size. A green or accepted input state only confirms that the parser found an ID; it does not promise that any public thumbnail response will load at that moment.
See the five-image check before changing the link
The downloader checks all five standard names in parallel and gives each browser image request up to eight seconds to settle. A size is included only when the loaded image reports natural width and height greater than one pixel. This avoids presenting a filename as a usable thumbnail simply because it was requested.
If the no-image message appears, first copy the public video link again and submit it once more. If the same public video still returns no listed size, try another public video rather than manually constructing a thumbnail URL. MyThumbTester does not recover private material, create a missing image, or download the video itself.
Choose only a result the browser actually listed
When one or more sizes do load, select one of those listed options before using Download JPG or Open in thumbnail tester. Available sizes can differ by public video, and maximum resolution is not assumed from the URL alone. A listed option is an observation about that public response, not a quality score or a recommendation.
If you send a listed image to the tester, inspect it in the six local layouts and export a PNG only if you want a visual review record. The preview checks presentation and cropping in MyThumbTester’s illustrative frames; it does not reproduce every YouTube surface.
What this troubleshooting check cannot establish
A missing or loaded public thumbnail response cannot establish ownership, permission to reuse the image, future availability, or how YouTube will display it everywhere. It also cannot tell you which thumbnail will earn more clicks, rankings, distribution, or views. It answers one narrower question: whether this browser can currently load one of the five public image responses for the parsed video ID.
