MyThumbTester guide
What can a local thumbnail preview do before YouTube Studio Test & Compare?
Use a local preview to inspect a fixed image and title across layouts before publishing; use Studio Test & Compare for its separate audience experiment when available.
Use a local preview to inspect the presentation before you run any audience experiment
Before using YouTube Studio Test & Compare, you can load one local thumbnail into MyThumbTester, enter the draft title, and inspect the fixed combination in Home feed, Search, Watch page, Shorts, Mobile, and Sidebar. This gives you a repeatable way to spot crop, title-wrap, and small-layout issues before a video is published. MyThumbTester keeps the image and text in your browser and exports a local PNG; it does not send variants to viewers or measure an outcome. That is a reproducible presentation check, not a prediction of click-through rate, ranking, distribution, or views.
YouTube’s official Test & Compare documentation describes a separate feature that can show eligible creators’ thumbnail variants concurrently and reports a result from viewer watch-time behavior. A local mockup and a Studio experiment therefore answer different questions.
Keep the local review controlled
For a useful pre-publish check, keep the image and title fixed while switching layouts. Write down only visible observations: for example, whether the subject remains identifiable in the Sidebar card, whether the title loses its key words in Watch page Up next, or whether a wide image loses its important area in the Shorts frame.
If you have two draft files, MyThumbTester can place them side by side in the same selected layout and export that visual record. It does not randomize their order, determine eligibility, or calculate a winner.
Move to Studio when the question is about audience response
Use a Studio experiment when your question is which thumbnail should be evaluated with viewers, and when your channel and video are eligible for that YouTube feature. Use the local preview when your question is whether a specific image-title combination is readable and visually coherent before that stage.
Do not treat an attractive local frame as proof of an experiment outcome. Likewise, a Studio result does not make the illustrative MyThumbTester layout a live YouTube rendering. Keep each tool’s evidence in its own scope.
Save the review record without confusing it for test data
Export the selected local preview PNG with the exact draft title and keep it with the project. It records what you reviewed in the browser at that moment. It does not contain viewer behavior, a CTR result, a ranking forecast, or a distribution prediction.
